Super Nutrition with Fewer Calories

The market value of functional foods in North America has reached over $130 billion and is growing. Nutri-Loc’s technology offers a low-cost and effective means of tapping into this market by extracting nutritious secondary metabolites (isolates) contained in fruits and vegetable waste such as culls, leaves, stems, seeds and processing remnants.

Isolates, such as terpenoids, alkaloids, phenolics, glucosinolates and non-structural polysaccharides, are a large class of natural health products that may be extracted from a variety of cull fruits and vegetables. Examples include:

  • Carotene or lycopene isolated from carotenoids found in carrots and tomatoes.
  • Resversatrol contained within phenolic groups in grapes.
  • Quercitin separated from flavanoid groups in apples.

Nutri-Loc selectively extracts these secondary metabolites with a new processing technique that uses combinations of carbon dioxide, ethanol, and water (CEWat) at specific pressures and temperatures. This proprietary and novel technique provides an exciting and affordable opportunity to augment the nutrient value of food without increasing caloric intake.
